Halloway Announces Autumn Harvest Fair; Pie Contest Returns
Mayor Doreen Halloway confirmed Sunday that the Greywater Falls Autumn Harvest Fair will proceed on the green this Saturday, weather permitting, which in October it will not, and the fair will proceed regardless. "We have never let a little sky stop us," the Mayor said, arranging a tower of jam jars as she spoke. The marquee event remains the pie contest, last year decided by a single vote and a quantity of ill feeling that has not entirely settled. Mrs. Halloway will again decline to enter, citing the conflict of also being the judge, the organiser, and the supplier of the trestle tables. Entries open Wednesday at the bakery. The Mayor asks only that contestants "keep the fillings sensible."

Mossley Hardware will stay open until six through the autumn. Hank Mossley notes a brisk trade in gutter brackets and reminds residents that he warned them about the gutters in spring.
Diner Reinstates the Good Coffee
The Kettle has switched back to its winter roast. Marigold Vance describes the change as "seasonal" and the response from the morning counter as "frankly excessive."
Lake Reported Low for the Season
Several residents note Lake Greywater sitting a foot or more below its usual mark. Mr. Mossley attributes this to the dry September. "It comes up in the rain," he said. "It always comes up."
